GETTING PREPARED

Disasters can strike quickly and without warning. They could force you to evacuate or confine you to your home. What would you do if basic services were cut off? Local officials and relief workers would be on the scene following the disaster, but they cannot reach everyone immediately.

In today's climate, it is important that people prepare for possible and unexpected emergencies. Prepare your family for a disaster by developing a Family Disaster Plan.  Follow the three steps below to take action and make a difference.

Step 1: Make a Kit

Have at least three days of supplies in an easy-to-carry evacuation kit.

Step 2: Make a Plan

Planning ahead will help you have the best possible response to a disaster.

Step 3: Be Informed
Know what may happen and how you can help.

Contact your local Red Cross office to learn more about preparing your family for disaster, and you could help save the lives of the people you love.

Speakers are also available to educate your business, organization or school on disaster preparedness.
