Course Descriptions

CPR/AED- Adult (4 hours; Certification: 1 year)

This course covers how to recognize symptoms of a heart attack, and what to do in the event of one; when and how to do CPR on adults; choking rescue and rescue breathing; and how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).

 

CPR- Child & Infant (4 hours; Certification: 1 year)

A course designed for childcare providers, teachers, parents and others who care for children. Participants will learn how to recognize and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in infants and children up to 12 years old.

 

CPR/AED Review- Adult/Child/Infant (Certification: 1 year)

This class is for individuals who wish to be recertified in Adult CPR/AED or Adult/Child/Infant CPR/AED. Candidates must bring proof of certification.

 

CPR/AED Challenge (time varies; Certification: 1 year)

            This session allows participants to renew their certification in Adult CPR/AED, Child CPR/AED and Infant CPR or any combination of these components. This course is knowledge and skills testing session only. It is not a review or teaching session. Participants must come prepared to demonstrate the skills and knowledge required for each of the components.

 

Standard First Aid (4 hours; Certification: 3 years)

This course teaches participants how to treat cuts, bruises, bone and muscle injuries, shock, bleeding and other first aid emergencies.

 

 

Specialty Courses

 

Babysitting (6 hours)

The Babysitter's training course has a unique interactive, educational format that tasks youth with activities such as identifying safety problems around the house and yard and selecting age-appropriate toys and games for children in their care.

 

Pet CPR

A new course designed to teach participants how to respond to emergency situations until veterinary care is available.

 

Wilderness First Aid (16 hours)

This is a great course for anyone who lives or works in a rural area or simply loves the outdoors. Includes When Help is Delayed Module and Standard First Aid Certification. (Meets requirements of the Boy Scouts of America for Camp Philmont)

 

Sports Safety Training (6.5 hours)

This course covers sports-related injury prevention, first aid care and Adult CPR. An optional Child CPR component may also be taken. This course is a must for coaches, officials and parents of athletes.

 

Professional Courses

 

CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer (6-8 hours; Certification: 1 year)

A course that teaches a variety of skills including one-and two-rescuer CPR, use of resuscitation masks and bag-valve masks for ventilating victims, and how to respond in special rescue situations. This course also covers preventing disease transmission when responding to an emergency.

 

Emergency Response (16 hours; Emergency Response Certification: 3 years; Professional Rescuer CPR/AED Certification: 1 year)

A comprehensive course designed for training first responders. The course follows the 1995 US DOT First Responder National Standard Curriculum and meets ECC Guidelines.

 

Aquatics

 

Lifeguarding (Lifeguarding Certification: 3 years; Professional Rescuer CPR/AED Certification: 1 year)

            This course uses both classroom learning and hands-on practice to teach surveillance skills to help you recognize and prevent injuries; rescue skills in the water and on land; first aid training and professional rescuer CPR; professional lifeguard responsibilities such as interacting with the public.  

 

Water Safety

            Includes 6 levels of learn to  swim instruction for all ages.

 

Other Courses

 

Bloodborne Pathogens Training

            This course teaches vital information about managing a potential exposure to an infectious disease in the workplace. The training includes how bloodborne pathogens are spread, how to prevent exposure, and what to do if exposed to infectious materials.

 

Preventing Disease Transmission (2 hours)

            This course is designed to train employees to follow safe workplace practices, to report and follow-up on employee exposure to infectious materials, and to reduce the number of employees who contract bloodborne infections such as hepatitis B virus and human immunodeficiency (HIV) from the worksite.
